The Veterans Memorial is set to undergo an exciting transformation with the addition of a stunning new Star Canopy. This unique feature will soon grace the memorial, creating a striking visual tribute to our veterans.

The canopy will be crafted in a star shape, designed with a custom color that closely resembles the brass star worn on military uniforms. Complementing this beautiful structure, new lighting will illuminate the underside of the canopy during designated hours, enhancing its significance and beauty.

Phill Harris, Grand Prairie’s Park Planner, emphasized the importance of this design choice, stating, “The ‘gold star’ represents a very high, distinguished honor in all branches of military service. We want to honor all veterans and cannot think of a more appropriate symbol.”

In addition to the Star Canopy, the project will also include new landscaping within the park to further enhance its aesthetic appeal, creating a serene environment for visitors to reflect and pay tribute.

Construction for the Star Canopy is set to begin on June 1 and is expected to be completed by October. The city assures residents that construction will not impact public access to the park, allowing everyone to continue enjoying this cherished space.

Stay tuned for updates as we work to honor our veterans with this meaningful addition!
