About Charley Taylor
Charles Robert Taylor, a legendary figure from Grand Prairie, Texas, left an indelible mark on the world of professional football. Born on September 28, 1941, Taylor’s extraordinary journey took him from the fields of Grand Prairie to the pinnacle of the NFL. After honing his skills as a standout college football player with the Arizona State Sun Devils, he was chosen by the Washington Redskins in the first round of the 1964 NFL Draft. Taylor’s impact on the game was immense, earning him recognition as a six-time All-Pro and an eight-time Pro Bowl selection during his 13-season career with the Redskins. His contributions were pivotal in leading Washington to the playoffs five times and a Super Bowl appearance after the 1972 season. In honor of his extraordinary career, Charles Taylor was rightfully enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1984. His journey from Grand Prairie to NFL stardom is a testament to his dedication and talent, leaving an enduring legacy in the world of sports.

The Texas Plan allows for access to the Charley Taylor Recreation Center, use of the game room, study room, and gymnasium during open play, and allows for meeting room rentals and program registration. Day passes are available for $4 (Grand Prairie residents) and $6 (non-residents).

The Prairie Plan allows for access into the building and use of the game room, study room, and gymnasium during open play, and it allows for meeting room rentals and program registration. The Prairie Plan can be used at Tony Shotwell Life Center, Dalworth Recreation Center, and Charley Taylor Recreation Center.

All Rental Fees are due at the time of reservation. Rentals must be made at least two weeks before the event. Cancellations must be completed one week before the event for a full refund.

Charley Taylor Recreation Center specializes in pre-kindergarten sports for children ages 3-5 years. For all leagues, you must make a $75 payment to reserve your child’s spot. The after-school program is offered Monday through Friday from 3:30-6pm. The program picks up at Delmas Morton Elementary and follows the GPISD calendar. Fee: $25/week/child

Ages 3+. This class is preserving Latino culture and history through dance and education using Hispanic traditions from North, Central, and South America and the Caribbean. Our promise is to offer top-notch quality for everyone to enjoy and learn! Amor A Nuestra Cultura has experience with various internationally recognized Ballet Folklorico instructors.

Charley Taylor Recreation Center has one multi-purpose room that can be rented out for birthday parties, reunions, baby showers, and more. Rentals must be made at least two weeks in advance.
The room is available for rental on Saturdays from 2:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m., and Sundays from 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
